Activity report : NEPAD CEO report to the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee (HSGOC)

Excellencies,

Chairperson of the NEPAD Orientation Committee, His Excellency, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia;

Chairperson of the African Union, His Excellency, President Bingu Wa Mutharika of Republic of Malawi;

Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency, Dr. Jean Ping;

AU Commissioners here present;

Distinguished Guests;

Ladies and Gentlemen;

On behalf of the NEPAD Agency, I am pleased to present this Report on the major programmatic activities for the period: July to December 2010 to the 24th NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee (HSGOC).

Permit me to briefly highlight the context in which the newly established NEPAD Agency has been functioning:

- The successful finalization of the integration of NEPAD into the structures and processes of the African Union which has served as the new impetus for the implementation of the NEPAD Programme;

- Through the Decision of the 14 the AU Assembly, the NEPAD Agency now serves as the technical body of the African Union with clear and specific mandate; 　

- The Agency now focuses on results-based performance to deliver on its new mandate. In this regard, the Agency has been working on its Strategic Direction which is based on the AU Commission Strategic Plan of 2009 – 2012;
- Equally, NPCA has adopted AU rules, regulations and practices for its Human Resources, Finance and Administration Systems;
- Active mobilization of development partners and resources for the implementation of our regional and continental programmes and projects has continued, with a Partnership and Resource Mobilization Strategy in the pipeline.
