Midrand, 30/5/2011. Günter Nooke, the German Chancellor's G8 Personal Representative for Africa, visited the NEPAD Agency on Monday. He was received by the Chief Executive Officer of the NEPAD Agency, Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki.
In talks that lasted close to an hour, Dr. Mayaki (to the right in the photo) reiterated the key issues of peace, security, governance and economic development as being at the fore-front of engagements with the G8 as was highlighted at the recent G8 Summit 2011 in Deauville, France.
Mr. Nooke welcomed the fact that an accountability report on the G8's commitments to Africa had been tabled. He also advised that the report should be used by both the G8 and African governments to see how they can improve their various commitments towards African development.
Both agreed, that development in Africa should be driven by domestic resource mobilisation and that efforts should be made to create conducive environments for young people, the private sector and civil society to participate in the development of Africa's emerging economies.
