Action Plan for the Environment Initiative

NEPAD recognizes that addressing environmental issues is a pre-condition for achieving goals of sustainable growth and development. Hence, environment has been identified as one of the core priority initiatives of NEPAD. NEPAD further recognizes that a key objective of the Environment Initiative must be to combat poverty and contribute to socio-economic development in the region.

The overall objective of the Action Plan is to complement the relevant African processes, including the work programme of the revitalized AMCEN, with a view to improving environmental conditions in Africa in order to contribute to the achievement of economic growth and poverty eradication. It will also build Africa’s capacity to implement regional and international environmental agreements and to effectively address African environmental challenges within the overall context of the implementation of NEPAD
