Midrand/Johannesburg (South Africa) – 26 May 2011. The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) will be holding its 15th Summit of the Heads of State and Government Participating in the APRM (APR Forum) and related meetings on the margins of the 17th Summit of the African Union from 26th to 29th June 2011 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The meetings are scheduled as follows:
26th - 27th June 2011:
50th Meeting of the APR Panel of Eminent Persons
28th June 2011:
● Meeting with Strategic Partners
● Pre-Summit Meeting with APRM Focal Points and Advisors to the Heads of State and Government
29th June 2011:
15th Summit of Heads of State and Government Participating in the APRM / Press Conference
Journalists are invited to attend the Opening Session of the Summit and the Press Conference.
Accreditation for the 17th AU Summit will facilitate access to the 15th Summit of the APR Forum. In this regard, specific badges will be available in Malabo. The Information and Communication Divisions of the APRM Secretariat and the African Union Directorate of Information and Communication (DIC) are at the disposal of Media Organizations for further clarifications.
Initiated in 2002 and established in 2003 by the African Union (AU) in the framework of the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the APRM is a self-monitoring instrument that to which Member States of the African Union accede voluntarily. The APRM currently has 30 member countries: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.
The primary purpose of the APRM is to foster the adoption of policies, standards and practices that lead to political stability, high economic growth, sustainable development and accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration through experience sharing and the reinforcement of successful and best practices.
