Midrand, South Africa/Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 23 March 2011 - On Sunday 27 March, in the UN- ECA Conference Centre, the AU Commission and the NEPAD Agency, in collaboration with the RECs and partners, will officially launch and unveil the Africa Platform for Development Effectiveness ( APDEv) during the 4th AU/ECA joint Annual Meeting of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance scheduled for 24-29 March in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Endorsed by the 15th African Union Summit of July 2010, the Africa Platform for Development Effectiveness (APDEv) is a physical and virtual multi-stakeholder platform and organising mechanism for mobilizing African policy makers and practitioners toward achieving sustainable development results. A key programmatic activity of the Platform is coordinating and consolidating Africa’s voice in preparation for the IV High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, South Korea in November 2011. To this effect, the Launch event will consider a draft African Consensus Note for Busan.
The initiative is jointly coordinated by the African Union Commission and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (The NEPAD Agency).
The Platform focuses on three interrelated themes of Aid effectiveness and South –South cooperation with Capacity Development as a critical and core driver for development effectiveness. In essence the APDEv seeks to foster knowledge and evidence-based innovation processes in advancing development effectiveness on the Continent. Based on the AU NEPAD Capacity Development Strategic Framework (CDSF), the APDev fills a significant operational knowledge gap in Africa’s capacity needs for development effectiveness. The APDEv is primarily a translation of the Evidence-based Knowledge for Innovation Cornerstone of the CDSF and it further applies the five other cornerstones in an integrated approach to CD.
The Platform brings together representatives of Governments, Parliamentarians, Civil Society Organisations, Private Sector, Academia and Regional Economic Communities to share knowledge and respond to the dynamic context of regional and global relationships towards strengthening Africa’s engagement in the full realisation of its development goals.
Journalists are hereby invited to attend and participate in this event.
