A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) and the Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) to establish an African HIV-AIDS centre of expertise.
The centre, which is going to be run by the Government of Botswana through the support of COHRED, will collaborate with the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) in the areas of health, research, biosciences, science and technology.
Under the agreement, the BIH and COHRED will work together in the fight against HIV and AIDS by developing health-related research and science and technology. They will also mobilise funds for improved research so as to improve healthcare systems and development in Africa.
By doing this, BIH and COHRED will tap into NEPAD’s existing health and research projects. These include the African Bioscience Initiative (ABI) aimed at harnessing African support for biodiversity science and technology, biotechnology and indigenous knowledge.
