Mr Odd Eirik Arnesen, Senior Agriculture Advisor and Mrs Lisetta Marie Trebbi, Assistant Director of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), recently visited the NEPAD Agency to review progress made in the implementation of two agriculture climate change programmes.

NEPAD CEO Dr Mayaki thanked Norway for its continued support to the Agriculture Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Framework and Gender, Climate Change and Agriculture Support Programme (GCCASP) which NEPAD is implementing with the financial support from NORAD.

The purpose of the Framework is to address climate change through adaptation and mitigation measures in line with the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP); Africa’s strategy to increase food and nutrition security.

The African Gender, Climate Change and Agriculture Support Program (GCCASP) aims to support the implementation of regional and country climate adaptation interventions by empowering rural women, youth and other vulnerable sections of communities to better cope with the adverse impacts of climate change in Africa.

NORAD has been a key supporter of NEPAD since 2007 in the area of sustainable land and water management primarily driven by NEPAD’s TerrAfrica Programme.

TerrAfrica is a NEPAD-led partnership present in 24 countries on the African continent that supports innovative solutions to sustain landscapes, address land and water degradation and adapt to a changing climate.

During the meeting, the CEO and NORAD reaffirmed their commitment to support African Union members to mainstream climate change in agriculture and natural resource programmes.
