Launch of the UN-OECD-NEPAD study on economic diversification in Africa

As a first step in its co-operation, the (UN-)OSAA-OECD-NEPAD partnership will launch a joint study on economic diversification in Africa, as well as a series of Africa policy briefs on issues such as Foreign Direct Investment, Infrastructure, Debt, Taxation and Aid. The study, “Economic Diversification in Africa: a Review of Selected Countries” shows that to achieve and sustain long term economic growth and development, African countries need to reduce dependence on commodity exports and to invest greater national and regional efforts in business climate reform. The partnership will be launched at a special public briefing to UN Member States and the public at the UN Headquarters on Monday, 11 October at 10am. Mr. Cheick Sidi Diarra, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General on Africa, Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD Planning and Coordination Agency (NEPAD Agency) and Mr. Eckhard Deutscher,Chair of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) will be available for interview at a press conference following the briefing.
