"For 67 years Nelson Mandela devoted his life to the service of humanity — as a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, an international peacemaker and the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa. Mr Mandela has inspired individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. His selfless struggle has made him a universal symbol of hope, freedom, courage, peace, justice and equality.
In celebrating the life and legacy of Mr Mandela, the NEPAD Agency is reflecting on the values for which he has fought throughout his life. Africans should therefore draw inspiration from Mr Mandela’s own commanding voice in deepening an understanding of the values of democracy, good governance, gender equality and human rights, which no doubt are the shared values for Africa’s integration and development.
The NEPAD Agency joins the rest of the world in congratulating Tata Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on his 94th birthday. Africa is certainly proud to be home to the icon which Madiba has become. Madiba will continue to be an inspiration to all Africans, as well as the rest of the world.
