CAADP's aims
CAADP's goal is to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty by improving agriculture across the African continent.
CAADP's role
CAADP provides strategic functions, regional economic communities and national roundtables to achieve its aims. The programme also focuses on four key areas to improve productivity and growth. These four pillars are:
Pillar 1: Land and water management
Extending the area under sustainable land management.
Pillar 2: Market access
Improving rural infrastructure and trade-related capacities for market access.
Pillar 3: Food supply and hunger
Increasing food supply and reducing hunger.
Pillar 4: Agricultural Research
Research, technology dissemination and adoption to improve agricultural practice.
Resource co-ordination
To aid its work, CAADP worked with development partners to found the Multi-donor Trust Fund, now hosted at the World Bank. The fund provides a mechanism to channel financial support to CAADP processes and investments.
The fund is a flexible yet systematic way to:
- Harmonise priorities;
- Allow economies of scale;
- Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of financial resources;
- Target specific gaps in financing, capacity and technology;
- Build partnerships and coalitions among African institutions, partners and donors; and
- Complement existing CAADP resources mobilised around the CAADP Pillars and other priorities.
