The world is seized by finding the next clean source of energy. W hi le algae-based bio-fuel has captured the interest of small entrepreneurs and tech-savvy start-ups, it has also garnered the focused attention of the U.S. National Aviation and Space Agency - NASA, and global investment companies such as Goldman Sacs. Yet, Zanzibari women who have been cultivating algae for almost twenty years, and he Zanzibari government which knows the return on the investment, do not seem interested in cultivating algae-based bio-fuel.

The stakeholders included Government representatives, academia, private sector, civil society and regional research institutions.

The gender indicator is worth monitoring overtime, as it will show whether there is growth in participation of women in the scientific career in Africa.
Presenting Chapter 3 on Research and experimental development of the African Innovation Outlook 2010, Prof Dr Claes Brudenius, from the Research Policy Institute Lund University in Sweden said under the allocation of human resources among the sectors the female participation ratio for women employed as researchers and as support staff was similar.
