NEPAD assisted five organisations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo towards women empowerment projects in areas such as: institutional support, promotion women through transformation, coordination of regional activities in cross-border informal trade and popularisation, ratification and domestication of the African Union Protocol on rights of women, capacity-building, advocacy and mobilisation for budget responsiveness.

Organisations implemented the projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, include, REFETANG (Women’s Network of Tanganyika), CTPA (Centre de Transformation des Produits Alimentaires), CEPGL (La Communauté Economique des Pays des Grands Lacs) and Equality Now. In total, 12399 women and men were reached in the advancement of women rights and gender equality and human rights.
