  • In the Republic of Sierra Leone, funds were disbursed towards supporting projects on enhancing the capacity of women and girls through literacy, livelihood skills, fund-raising and grant-making initiative and capacity building programme for women organisations.
  • The organisations that were supported in the Republic of Sierra Leone, include MEST (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology - Non-Formal Education Directorate), AWDF (African Women’s Development Fund) and REPAO (Le Réseau sur les Politiques de Pêche en Afrique de l’Ouest). In total, 700 women and men were reached through the advancement of women rights and gender equality and human rights projects. The MEST (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology - Non Formal Education Directorate) enhanced the capacity of 500 women and girls who were enrolled at 30 Non-Formal Education (NFE) learning centres in eight districts of Sierra Leone, by providing literacy, livelihood skills training, business skills training, micro-enterprise support and reproductive health training. The initiative contributed towards the socio-economic empowerment of the young women and girls through capacity building and micro-financing.
