  • In the Republic of Sudan funds were disbursed on Equality Now towards supporting a project on African Women’s Rights Protection and Advancement.
  • Equality Now implemented this project in 16 countries. It advocated for the ratification of the Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa and addressed human rights abuses suffered by adolescent girls. An important outcome was the ratification of the Protocol in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Guinea-Bissau and Zimbabwe, securing Sao Tome and Principe as a signatory and promoting the multi-sectoral framework for domestication and implementation of the Protocol in 16 African Union (AU) member states that had ratified the Protocol. In Sudan, 21,815 letters were dispatched between 2012 and 2014 regarding the plight of women charged with adultery; 3 cases dismissed against women charged with adultery and facing death penalties.
