Strengthening the economic status of the EMPADA women through agriculture and marketing

Overview

The Aid Association for People Development (ADPP), aimed to improve the economic status of 416 young women from the Empada sector of Guinea-Bissau by improving agricultural production processes and access to water. Education and skills training initiatives were provided to the farmers while promoting gender equality within the respective communities through social awareness campaigns. Additionally, the project arranged the beneficiaries into 10 farming cooperatives, each of which were provided with farming land and secured title deeds thereto. The allocated land was managed and processed by the cooperatives, thus creating a stable source of income for the women involved and contributing to local economic development.

Key results

  • The agricultural development initiatives undertaken by the project provided employment to 416 young, vulnerable women, thereby providing a stable source of income for themselves and their families. The investment undertaken by the ADPP ensure the long-term access to employment for the women and contributed to local economic development in the project area.
  • The project arranged the beneficiaries into 10 farming cooperatives, each of which were provided with farming land and secured title deeds thereto. The allocated land was managed and processed by the cooperatives, thus creating a stable source of income for the women involved.
  • The project contributed towards the development of SMEs by improving the young women’s access to farming land, water sources, farming materials as well as through the hosting of farming skills training workshops.
