Amount € 100,000.00

Overview

The African Women Foundation (AFFRO) aim is to support asset building for poverty eradication among young women. This was achieved through the purchase and installation of 16 posho (maize) mills, which directly benefitted 480 young women. The project was executed in collaboration with 16 women’s groups from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The women were provided with ownership of the equipment and used it to establish small-scale production businesses. Capacity building workshops were held in small business management to ensure the women had the requisite human capital to develop and maintain successful, profitable businesses. The project leaves a legacy of local economic development, which improved the lives and capacities of young, impoverished women. The project thus addressed Aspiration 1 of the African Union's Agenda 2063, which envisions a prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development.
