To empower women to participate in governance and oversight of devolved funds in Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nairobi districts of Kenya

Overview

Women were capacitated to exercise participatory governance and transparent oversight of funds channeled to the local level in Kenya for development and poverty alleviation. Outcomes achieved by the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA)  include a survey among 427 women, 43 key informants and 16 focus group to assess the implementation of the Women Enterprise and Development Fund; a National Women Leaders Forum where 71 delegates (46 female, 25 male) validated the Survey Report and addressed legislative issues; 15 Community Awareness Forums where theatre performances  were used to inform more than people of the Fund; 30 artists (15 female) were trained to communicate key messages regarding the Fund; 75 women leaders trained on  the Fund; messages about the Fund were communicated through T-shirts, posters and brochures; a  monitoring tool developed for the management of the Fund; a workshop convened to validate the monitoring tool and survey report; FIDA  advocated for legislative change at all the forums and held review and monitoring meetings throughout the project.
