Overview

Teen Challenge is a Christian organisation which provides support to poor, marginalised women and youth. The organisation mobilises financial resources to implement community-based development and women’s empowerment projects. The target group of the project were recovering female drug addicts. The beneficiaries were rehabilitated but still vulnerable, uneducated and unemployed women who live in poor peri-urban areas of Cape Town in South Africa. This project supported Aspiration 6 in the African Union’s Agenda 2063 that calls for an Africa whose development is people-driven, especially relying on the potential offered by its youth and women, and the goal outlined in Aspiration 1 for a high standard of living, quality of life and well-being for all citizens. It further resonates with the Sustainable Development Goals to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls and the goal to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Key results

The project reintegrated the women into their communities and equipped them via training and skills development to provide an income for themselves and their families. A total of 670 women directly benefitted from the project
