Overview

The long civil war between Sudan and South Sudan left many women marginalised and affected by poverty. The project undertaken by the Juba Women’s Self Help Development Organisation aimed to economically empower women from the Central Equatoria State of South Sudan through the provision of business and vocational skills training. In total, 74 disadvantaged women benefitted from business and vocational skills training. 20 women received training to prepare themselves for employment in the hospitality industry. 18 women participated in vocational skills training such as bread baking and needlework, while 36 women received small business development and life-skills training.

Key Results

36 poor, vulnerable women from the Central Equatoria state in South Sudan reaped the benefits of small business development and life-skills training. The workshop training focused on how to start a small business and discussed the common pitfalls that new business owners face. The training was undertaken to economically empower these marginalised women through capacity building and enhance their future employment prospects.

In total, 74 disadvantaged women benefitted from business and vocational skills training. The training enhanced the human capital of the beneficiaries, improving their employment prospects and potential to generate an income for themselves and their families.
