YEYA (Agricultural Organisation)

Community Health, Rice and Poultry Production Project (NERICA) in 20 villages of the Foungbesso sub-prefecture

Republic of Côte d'Ivoire

Amount: € 29,913.00

Overview

Since 2006, the YEYA Agricultural Organisation has run a programme to support rice production in the Bafing region of the Ivory Coast. The project was structured around the equipping and training of women in basic midwifery and support for women's groups engaged in traditional poultry farming and rice production. In total 3840 Ivorian women directly benefitted from the project's intervention. The project outcomes were thus in-line with the aspirations set out in the African Union's Agenda 2063, which envisions an Africa where development is people-driven, through unleashing the potential of women and youth.

Key results

In total the agricultural projects economically empowered 3840 Ivorian women and their dependents.

  • The project assisted 32 women’s groups as well as individual farmers from 58 villages. 32 community plots for rice cultivation were established, with a total of 20 hectares devoted to production. Training sessions were conducted on application of herbicides, production and use of compost, seed production and harvesting, the organisation of groups and the cascading of information about cultivation.
  • For the poultry farming initiative, 12 community poultry sheds were constructed, with appropriate training and equipment provided to 40 delegates from 20 villages.
