It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the death of Dr René N'Guettia Kouassi, African Union Commission’s Director of Economic Affairs.

Dr Kouassi’s professionalism in the Department of Economic Affairs, specifically his contribution to Economic Integration, Monetary Affairs, Private Sector Development, Investment and Resource mobilisation, will be greatly missed – not only in the African Union Commission, but in the continent as a whole.

As an Agency, we also had the opportunity to learn from his wealth of knowledge and expertise, while delivering on our mandate to support the transformation of Africa.

It goes without saying that as a continent, we have lost one of our best.

We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of Dr Kouassi, grieving extended family, friends and colleagues around the world.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
