Colombian delegation visit in frame of the flourishing south-south cooperation between NPCA APC Colombia

The NEPAD Agency within the framework of the implementation its programmes, concluded a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia through its Presidential Cooperation Agency (APC). This cooperation was the subject of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two institutions on 25 September 2014 focusing on the achievement of performance objectives in several thematic areas, among of them agriculture-rural development /food security.

To consolidate this just born cooperation, a Colombian delegation visited Ghana and Benin from the 24th of October to the 3rd of November for a first study tour focusing on agribusiness and agricultural vocational training.

This mission organised by the office of the CEO supported by NPCA Agribusiness task team offered opportunity for exchange of experiences and good practices for a joint cooperation leading to the transformation of the agricultural sector on the continent and also in Colombia.

Discussing during wrap up sessions respectively with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in Accra and Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAEP) in Benin came out with tangible cooperation areas in technical and vocational training to the youth and women, the cocoa and coffee industry success stories respectively in Ghana and Colombia and the integrated ecological farming system of Songhai in Benin.

The way forward is to NPCA to conduct a stocktaking study on good agricultural practices and institutional innovations in selected African countries and Colombia to serve a basis document for public private cooperation in the agribusiness.
