Internal Workshop on NEPAD and 2063 Agenda

CEO Dr Ibrahim Mayaki has said that NEPAD’s role in the Agenda 2063 drive is critical because the Agency has an enormous task in making sure that it feeds into the planning processes so that the initiative can become a reality.

Dr Mayaki was speaking during an internal workshop for NEPAD staff, on Agenda 2063, aimed at ensuring an understanding and ownership of the initiative by all Programmes. It is the African Union’s global strategy to optimise use of Africa’s resources for the benefit of the continent’s people.

Driven by the Strategic Planning and knowledge Management Unit, under Gengezi Mgidlana, the workshop  discussed some critical elements and examined the approach needed to make sure that what NEPAD’s Programmes do, is embedded in the instruments, processes and design of Agenda 2063.

“The big difference between NEPAD and previous African development initiatives is that we have succeeded  because our implementation instruments were clear. Others before did not have such clear instruments. This is what has allowed us to be imbedded into the African Union,” said Dr Mayaki

NEPAD remains critical to the transformation of Africa. As the flagship programme of the AU it is committed to  championing sustainable growth and development in the context of the Agenda, being designed as the AU long-term development strategy for the next 50 years.
