Joint AU NEPAD Publication on Agriculture launched

The NEPAD Agency and AUC have jointly launched a key product  - Agriculture in Africa -  which defines the key priorities and opportunities to advance agriculture. The publication was launched in Addis Ababa. It is developed within the context of sustaining the CAADP momentum and especially to inform decisions on key issues that will drive agriculture into to the next decade and beyond. It reflects debate and consultations going on with regard to two key themes, Agenda 2063 and Post 2015 Agenda.

Addressing a media briefing at the launch, NEPAD CEO Dr Mayaki said in the next 30 years, the world’s population will be about 9 billion and Africa will play a significant role in feeding the huge population. As such Agriculture has become  a political issue.

“ An analysis of election campaign speeches in 2012 shows that they all placed agriculture as a priority. This means that it is a political issue and we need to find out how to tackle our land and other agricultural aspects for us to be successful. With clear and credible information and data provided by this publication, ” said Dr Mayaki.
