NEPAD to launch novel web App on AU Infrastructure Projects

Addis Ababa, May 24, 2013 - The 47th meeting of the NEPAD Steering Committee Meeting has commended the Agency for its innovative approach to managing and disseminating information of Africa’s key infrastructure programme PIDA.

The Steering Committee is made up of personal representatives of African leaders, who are members of the NEPAD Heads of States and Government and Government Orientation Committee (HSGOC). The Steering Committee normally meets about four times a year mainly to provide policy guidance and strategic advice to the NEPAD Agency.

At the 47th meeting in Addis Ababa held on May 23, NEPAD CEO Dr Ibrahim Mayaki gave a brief insight into a new web-based portal called VPiC, short for Virtual PIDA Information Centre, through which information about one of AU’s flagship mandates, the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) will be stored and managed.

imageVPiC will be officially launched by the President Macky Sall of Senegal and Chairperson of NEPAD and Dr. N. Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the AU Commission at the HSGOC breakfast meeting in Addis Ababa on May 25. On this day, the African Union will mark its 50th anniversary, having metamorphosed from the Organisation of African Unity.

VPiC is a collaborative effort between NEPAD, the Africa Development Bank and the AU Commission.
