NEPAD signs agreement with the Liechtenstein Foundation

Joint Press Release by the Liechtenstein Foundation for State Governance and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency on a comprehensive six-year initiative in Africa for capacity development, financial literacy and economic reform

At a ceremony at Vaduz Castle, the Liechtenstein Foundation for State Governance (LFSG) and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NEPAD Agency), the technical body of the African Union, signed today a comprehensive cooperation agreement for a significant Africa-wide capacity development and reform initiative over the next six years. The cooperation between LFSG and the NEPAD Agency will establish long-term, institutionalized and sustainable transfer of critical knowledge and implementation tools for healthy and efficient financial and capital markets in Africa. This joint initiative has been defined and structured in accordance with the AU/NEPAD Capacity Development Strategic Framework (CDSF), and will be implemented through series of capacity development, public education and financial sector development projects in qualifying African countries.

The joint LFSG/NEPAD Agency initiative is predicated upon extensive public education and financial literacy campaigns to be implemented by local task forces based on know-how and tools specifically acquired through the LFSG training methodology. This extensive knowledge transfer will generate stakeholder engagement and mobilization at all levels of society, and aims at addressing current deficiencies of implementing capacities by ensuring that individuals are equipped with the necessary know-how and skills to execute and implement needed reforms in key institutions.

The knowledge and implementation tools are transferred through LFSG’s comprehensive, modular knowledge platform that provides representatives of the qualifying countries with all the necessary know-how and tools to succeed in reaching their respective objectives. The platform modules are based entirely on global best practices and contain a complete range of adaptation parameters to the political, economic, social and cultural realities in the participating countries in Africa.

Interventions in each participating African country will be driven by a task force drawn from the country with representatives of the various stakeholder groups. The task force will consist of preeminent local professionals and decision makers, including legislators, government and executive agency officials, financial and capital markets professionals, judges, lawyers, economists, auditors and accountants, tertiary professionals, and members of the media.

The Liechtenstein Foundation for State Governance was represented at the signing ceremony by H.S.H. Reigning Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein (Chairman of the Foundation Board), H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein (Member of the Foundation Board), and Dr. Daniel Levin (Member of the Foundation Board). The NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency was represented at the signing ceremony by H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki (Chief Executive Officer).
