“Africa is not empty of policies but the emphasis for the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency  is now on implementation and not peddling policy.”

This was stated by the NEPAD Agency’s Director of Corporate Services Mr Bankole Adeoye who is leading a delegation of senior staff and high level consultants on a series of discussions with government, private sector, civil society and the UN system in the Kenyan Capital Nairobi.

In a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Bankole said that the second decade of NEPAD is about achieving and showing more results as far as programme implementation is concerned so the effective coordination with country and regional structures will be very important.

Mr Nelson Ndirangu, representing the Directorate of Economic and External Trade at the Foreign Ministry said a good mechanism and flow of information have to be clear and enhanced so that the good work that NEPAD is doing is well articulated and understood.

The NEPAD team is in Kenya with three main objectives: to strengthen interaction with the core implemters who are at national level; through a mapping exercise, establish how many of the 54 countries in Africa have dedicated focal points and what are the best models from these setups and speak to having a common framework that can guide NEPAD at country level on its working methods and responsibilities.

The NEPAD exercise is a follow-up to a similar one conducted in Zambia with senior government officials last month. It is aimed at ensuring the effective and well-coordinated management of NEPAD’s Programmes at country and regional level.
