Without AU Member States, Agenda 2063 may not be accomplished

The African Union Commission and the Association of the African Public Services Commissions (AAPSComs) Strategizing on Effective and Efficient Public Service Deliveries in Africa.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2 September 2014: - The Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission and the Association of the African Public Services Commissions (AAPSComs) are currently meeting to promote effective and efficient public service delivery on the continent. The meeting commenced on Monday 1st September at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and will come to a close on 4th September 2014.

During a courtesy call to the Department of Political Affairs, Mr Ben Mthembu, the Chairperson of AAPSComs indicated that “Public Services Commissions are the key instruments through which Governments across Africa can guarantee quality public service delivery, effective public sector governance, and sustainable socio-economic development. According to him, without effective and efficient public services in African Union Member States, the African Union Agenda 2063 may not be accomplished.

On her path, Dr. Aisha Laraba Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Political Affairs encouraged AAPSComs to continue its partnership with the Department of Political Affairs towards a universal ratification and implementation of the African Charter on Values and Principles of Public Service and Administration.

The Department of Political Affairs assured of its readiness to work with the AAPSComms through the Memorandum of Understanding between the AUC and AAPSComs which is meant to among others enhance effectiveness and exchange of knowledge on public Service and Administration among the African Union Member States; promote the principles and values of Public Service and Administration, and advance the development of Africa through research to improve public service deliveries on the continent.
