NEPAD Water Centres of Excellence

WCoE has a mandate from the African Ministers responsible for Science and Technology and Water (AMCOST and AMCOW 2006)to assist governments in establishing sound scientific researched policy. It achieves this through policy briefs, guidelines and information that is backed by scientific research.

The specific goals are to:

  • Improve conservation and effective use of the continent’s water resources;   

  • Improve the quality and quantity of water available to rural and urban households;

  • Strengthen national and regional capacities towards water resources management and to reduce impacts of water related disasters; and

  • Enlarge the range of technologies for water supply and to improve access to affordable quality water.

The NEPAD Southern African Network of Centres of Excellence (SANWATCE) currently consists of institutions from seven SADC countries, which include South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the objective to include and fully integrate at least one institution from all SADC countries.
